First a student of FSOD, and now the Owner/Artistic Director, her heart has always beat for this studio, which has been serving this county for 40 years!!
With a strong focus on ballet, Jeanna’s training includes summer intensives at BelHaven University with Ballet Magnificat, Nutcracker performances with Civic Ballet, Dance Alive and Southern Ballet Theater. Also, master classes and Pas De Deux training with Tae Kwan Chu from Dance Alive and Prima Ballerina Assoluta-Galina Mezentseva from Kirov Ballet. “Ms. Jeanna,” as called by her students, contributes her versatility and strong foundation from her devotion to ballet, and strongly feels the technique gained from this art form paves the way for success in all other dance forms.
She traveled to compete and studied under big names such as Frank Hatchett, Janice Barringer and Hank Crabtree. She was the captain of her high school’s dance team and competed with the UDA (Universal Dance Association) and attended summer workshops at Florida State University.
After graduating in 2000, Jeanna became a wife and mom, and obtained a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida. From 2009-2013, she was an English/Reading teacher at Matanzas High School where she also directed the dance department. During this time, she was the choreographer for their spring musicals such as “Once on This Island,” “School House Rock, “ and “Little Shop of Horrors.” She also choreographed for “Grease” when she worked with a local, children’s musical theater group.
Jeanna has a heart for giving back to her local and international community. In 2010, Jeanna volunteered her time to rehearse and direct the party scene for Dance Alive’s Nutcracker. She has embarked on two, international mission trips to Guatemala with her local church, and coordinates yearly visits to elderly, assisted-living facilities where her students perform for the residents. Flagler School of Dance also sponsors the Down Right Dancers and donates studio space, so that children and adults with special needs can also experience the joy of dance!
She is a firm believer in continuing education, and still strives to further her own professional development. As a result, she was accepted as a Dance Performance Major to the Florida School of the Arts from 2014-2016 and was awarded a Presidential Scholarship. During this time, she continued her studies and performances in ballet, modern, improvisation and ensemble work. Under the direction of Mary Love Ward and Jessica Mayhew-Borrero, Jeanna experienced opportunities to learn from universities, companies and individuals from all over the country such as, The University of Florida, Einsenhower Dance, Larry Albright (Soul Studios) and Sara Procopia (Shen Wei Dance Arts).
Jeanna’s most recent adventure included a week-long dance experience at the world-renowned studio, Broadway Dance Center in New York City, where she took classes in tap, contemporary floor-work, contemporary fusion and contemporary jazz.
When she’s not dancing, Ms. Jeanna, and her husband of 17 years, are busy caring for their three beautiful daughters.
